Ethics XIV – 1.5 Contact Hours
The case-in-chief is Rapids Parish v. Grant Parish, Louisiana Court of Appeals 2006. As with our August 2015 ethics edition, this case also examines the surveying activity of two competing surveying firms in a boundary dispute between two parishes in Louisiana. Even though this case involves a 27-mile long boundary line, 12,000 acres of land, millions of dollars in tax revenue and millions more in litigation expenses, the boundary law principles are the same ones that are in play for the ordinary boundary dispute between Ma Kettle and Farmer Brown. However, with stakes this high you would think the surveyors would be at the top of their respective games. Sad to say, possibly not. In addition to judging the activities of the surveyors against the NSPS Surveyor’s Creed and Canons, we will also take a look at deceptive trade practices and see if consumer fraud might be in play. This is a 2-Page Letter covering 1 Court Opinion consisting of 33 pages. Along with a copy of the Creed and Canons, this is a 36-Page document with a 10-Question examination based on the text of the newsletter, the Creed and Canons, and the case-in-chief.
