Description

Standards of Practice I – 1.5 Contact Hours
The subject of this edition is Standards of Practice and the 2021 Minimum Standard Detail Requirements for ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys (2021 Standards). A “standard” is a “type, model or combination of elements acceptable as correct or perfect” (Black’s). In the context of land surveying, a standard of professional practice would describe the acceptable elements of “correct” practice. The modern trend across the country is to rename former “Minimum Technical Standards” to “Standards of Practice.” In this series we explore whether these so-called standards of practice are true “standards of practice” or merely technical standards is disguise. We start off this series with the 2021 Standards to explore this question. This is a 2-Page Letter covering the 2021 Standards consisting of 16 pages with our added commentary. This 18-Page document has a 10-Question examination based on the text of the newsletter and the standards.

OBJECTIVES: To enhance professional competency and improve practitioner’s knowledge of the law as it relates to the practice of land surveying.
